Long before the pillars of sustainable tourism were established, Lapa Ríos was conceived as a project whose objective would be to protect its endangered environment. Today, the 17 bungalow hostel preserves more than 1,000 acres of primary and secondary rainforest, and helps the development of the local community. Lapa Ríos was created in the year of 1993.
